In our classroom math is taught by grade level. We follow the Common Core math standards and implement a daily routine followed by our entire district.
Each math lesson follows the routine of Tool Building, then Concept Review and New Learning, finishing with Independent or Guided Practice.
All students use tools such as calendars, cuisenaire rods, base 10 blocks, coins, and clocks to help them grasp mathematical concepts. We use counting, games, and lots of practice with numbers to enhance understanding. Playing games, such as Checkers, Yahtzee, Connect Four, and Battleship, at home with your child is a great way to build their logic skills.
Both classrooms feature a Math Vocabulary wall and number line for students to access. Students are tested both in their understanding of concepts and their fluency. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Mrs. Robbins, our school Math Interventionist, works with 1st and 2nd grade math groups.
