Dear Families,
It has been a very busy week in the first grade! We read three wonderful books: Andrew Henry’s Meadow by Doris Burn, The Big Orange Splot, by Daniel Pinkwater and Old Henry by Joan W. Blos. Students made connections between what made the character’s houses special to them and what makes their own own homes special. They used collage materials to create houses. As a class we brainstormed what makes Cabot a special place to live and visit.
On Friday, we learned about going places safely on the internet. There is a separate Family Tip letter included in today’s folder. Ask your child to tell your the three safety rules we learned for safely using the internet.
During Math Workshop, first grade mathematicians continued their work with the tens strategy. This week they solved missing addends problems, counted dimes and pennies, and created and analyzed bar graphs. They also practiced counting on by tens from any number.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Donna
